Lex'S Biography

Lex has a Flurrblez ranch in Kalizona, Snoozeeland, with like 1,000 or more Flurrblez. It’s impossible to keep track of them; they run all over the place.

Lex has always loved creatures, and they seem to love him.  When he was a boy, he used to pick up all kinds of little creatures that he would find on the ground on his way home from school and bring them back in his pockets.  Sometimes his mom would be doing the laundry and would stick her hand in the pocket of one of his jackets, and pull her hand out, jump back and scream at the top of her lungs, because some kind of creepy, crawly creature would still be in there.  Laundry always made his mom nervous.

Lex used to read about creatures a lot too.  He wanted to learn as much as he could about all the different living things in the universe.  He knew more about nature than the other kids in his class and was lucky enough to get a chance to go on a jungle safari trip in one of the more remote regions of Snoozeeland when he was 8 years old.

He remembers being in constant wonder as he and two other kids were guided on the trek through the jungle and saw things with 6 legs, or 8 eyes, or 2 heads!  The group of four had come to the edge of a wide river and prepared their canoe to travel down it.  This part of the journey wasn’t as exciting to Lex, because he wasn’t exactly what you would call a ‘fan of water’.  But he put on a brave face and tried to move past his fear.

As the canoe flowed down river, the strength of the water grew and the rapids got bigger and bigger.  There had been a lot of snow fall during the past winter and the melting runoff was more than usual.  The group had tried desperately to get to the shore, but the river had become much too strong by this point and the canoe was simply at the mercy of the surging rapids.

To make the situation even worse, the skies had quickly darkened and you could smell a storm forming overhead.  Crackles of lightning pierced through the dark clouds only to be shadowed by tremendous claps of thunder.  As the canoe quickly approached what looked like a dangerous pitch in the river, that’s when the flash of light blinded Lex and the others.  A sheet of lightning seemingly hit from all sides and tossed the canoe into the air, with all the passengers landing in the icy water flow.  It was bad, really bad….was he about to drown?

Without more than a brief thought, Lex knew he had to help the others, but he also felt strange at that moment. Something was different in him.

He swam powerfully to the kid nearest him and grabbed him by the arm, then grabbed the second kid by his shoulder.  The guide, who had been leading the hike, was further away and closing in quickly on some huge, jagged rocks that were dangerously sticking up out of the water.  The flow was accelerating.  Lex reacted on pure instincts.  While still holding on to the other two kids, he pushed powerfully off a passing bolder with his legs and lunged for the guide, barely snatching his vest.

Then Lex felt something strange coming out of his body.  Well, it wasn’t really a thing; it was more of an energy.  It grew stronger and started to form around the four of them – like a force field.  Suddenly Lex realized there was no more water immediately around them, and he couldn’t hear the water very much anymore…..but they were still rushing down the surging river.  It’s just that now they were encircled within this protective, energized shield, and seemed to no longer feel the sense of impending doom that they were going to drown in the powerful rapids.  And sure enough, the protective energy bubble crashed against rocks, boulders, and fallen trees.  After what seemed like an hour of terror, the turbulent ride started to calm.

The canoe they had been in just moments before, passed by….broken into two parts.  The three other occupants that were floating inside the electromagnetic bubble shifted their stare toward Lex.  He didn’t know what to do or say, so he said nothing….kind of shrugged his shoulders a bit and looked away, trying to figure out what had just happened.  What had happened?

That day changed Lex’s life.  When he returned home, everyone had already heard about what had happened on the jungle trip.  People were talking about nothing else and everyone wanted to ask questions.  But Lex just wanted to lay low, so he stayed home and read books.  He had trouble sleeping at night; the sound of the rushing water would come back to his mind.  It took a few days before he got a good night’s sleep.  He had to work hard to think about other things…..happier things, before he could rest and feel safe again.  But he got there, eventually.
